What exactly is a house concert?
The easiest answer is: it’s live music in someone’s home — but it’s so much more than that.
A house concert brings musicians and music lovers together in a smaller, more personal setting. Instead of sitting in a large concert hall or standing in a crowded bar, you’re often just a few feet away from the artist. You hear the songs, the stories behind them, the laughter, and sometimes even the occasional mistake. And that’s part of what makes it special.
At Buddy’s Backyard, the “house” part is a little different. We’ve got a big backyard, multiple stages, a huge deck, and even a pontoon boat stage. But the idea is still the same:
Bring good people together. Give great musicians a place to play. And create an experience everyone will remember.
A house concert is as much about the community as it is about the music.
You may arrive not knowing many people and leave with a bunch of new friends. Musicians don’t just show up, play their set, and disappear. They hang out. They talk with the audience. They tell stories. Sometimes they sit down and listen to another artist play.
And there’s usually plenty of time before and after the music to eat, drink, visit and just enjoy being together.
One of the best things about a house concert is the connection between the artist and the audience.
There’s no giant production separating you from the stage. No enormous venue. No thousands of people between you and the performer.
You’re close enough to see the smiles, hear the stories and experience the songs the way they were meant to be experienced.
Many of the artists who play house concerts are incredible songwriters and musicians who you might not otherwise get the opportunity to see in such an intimate setting.
At a house concert, you’re not just an audience member.
You’re part of the experience.
Sing along. Laugh at the stories. Talk to the musicians. Meet the people sitting next to you. Make yourself at home.
That’s the beauty of a house concert.
It’s personal. It’s relaxed. It’s intimate. And it’s about the people as much as the music.
That’s what we’re trying to create at Buddy’s Backyard.
Not just another place to see a show, but a place where musicians and music lovers can come together, slow down for a while, and make some memories.
So if you’ve never been to a house concert before, come see what all the fuss is about.

How things work at Buddy’s Backyard House Concert
OUR #1 GOAL IS FOR EVERYONE TO HAVE A GREAT EXPERIENCE!!
We LISTEN to music here. Often stories between the songs are the best part of the show so keep your conversations to
a minimum so everyone can hear. We aren’t afraid to “SSSHHH” you! The artist also appreciates it when the audience
listens. If they want people to talk while they perform, they would be singing in a bar.
Most shows we collect a donation of $20 or $30 per person, some shows may be a little more. This year we will
encourage everyone to show a little extra Louisiana Love and add to the tip jar. We want to keep this affordable for
everyone, including the artists. We want them to keep coming, so let’s make it beneficial for THEM to WANT to come
back.
The people that play here are traveling TROP Rock artists who pay their own expenses to come here. They don’t have
jets or fancy tour buses (well not yet). The artist’s survival is dependent on playing venues like this. They usually sell
merchandise like T shirts, CD’s, stickers and the like. These days some of them have a separate tip jar for gas. Feel free
to reach deep in your pocket if you are moved by the spirit.
Payments: We accept cash, Venmo, and PayPal at this time. WE DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS. Some shows,
we will ask for reservations with payment in advance. Venmo: @Karyn-Roussel PayPal: karynroux If you cannot
make a show, you can still donate. You can send payment to the artist directly or send it thought the options listed above
with a note of the name of the artist.
SMOKING – Be considerate about where your smoke is going. If the fans are on, don’t stand behind it. IT IS NOT OK
to smoke on the deck if the show is on the pontoon boat. Ask us and we will point you in the right direction.
As of right now, children are welcome as long as it is understood that this is a listening venue. Just like adults,
distractions will not be acceptable. (running, constant moving from one place to another, loud talking, etc.) Pets are also
welcome with the same rules as children and they will need to be on a leash…the pets not the children.
This is our HOME not a business. We are just the “hosts” of house concerts in our backyard. We do this for fun and to
support these artists who we have come to call friends. We like meeting new people and welcome you to attend.
We don’t sell drinks or food. You are welcome to bring whatever you’d like to drink or eat. We usually have water.
You’ll need to bring a chair to sit in. We have a few picnic tables and some barstools, but a comfy chair will make this
experience better for you.
We have cool bathrooms for you to use. Some people say the bathrooms are the best part of our place. You’ll have to
check them out when you are here.
We have a BIG yard, and our neighbors are cool so there’s never a problem with parking. If you did get stuck, our
redneck neighbors would fight to see who got to help get you out.
This is an outdoor venue. We have shows “Rain or Shine” so sometimes we move under our raised house. Having the
artists play under the house is kind of intimate, some say better. Did we mention it’s an OUTDOOR venue in Louisiana?
Yes, we have mosquitoes and other flying insects…that is out of our control.
The public is invited but we reserve the right to ask you to leave if we think you’re loud and obnoxious (hasn’t
happened yet but might).
